Community Conduct Procedures
Student Code of Conduct
The Student Conduct Code at New College of Florida reflects the College’s commitment to fostering a respectful and engaged campus community. Students are encouraged to pursue personal and academic growth while considering the impact of their behavior on others.
The College promotes an educational experience that challenges students to think critically about moral issues and prepares them for responsible participation in society.
Freedom of expression is a core value, and students are encouraged to share ideas and opinions, provided they do so respectfully and within college policies. These freedoms are protected under the 2019 Florida Board of Governors’ “Statement of Free Expression.”
The student conduct process is purposefully educational and upholds the College’s mission. Being part of the College is a privilege, and violations of conduct expectations may result in appropriate consequences.
New College expects each student to act with maturity, assume responsibility for individual actions, and respect the rights of other members of the community. New College judicial procedures have been established in accordance with State of Florida regulations. All students are subject to the New College of Florida Student Code of Conduct found at this link: Student Code of Conduct
Conduct Process:
A written notice is given to any complainant(s) or respondent who allegedly has violated the student code of conduct. Absent exigent circumstances, the Student Conduct Authority will notify a respondent of any alleged Code violation(s) a minimum of within seven business days before a disciplinary proceeding.
The Student Conduct Code affords all students involved in the College’s student conduct process (including investigation and adjudication) the right to an advisor. The College must be informed of an advisor's anticipated identity and attendance by submitting this form at least three business days before a meeting, hearing, or proceeding. New College of Florida allows parties to submit witnesses for invitation to participate in the investigation or hearing process.

Students are also encouraged to contact the Ombudsperson (ombuds@ncf.edu) for assistance with informal, impartial, and non-adversarial alternatives for the resolution of conflict. The Ombudsperson, guided by the principles of independence, neutrality, confidentiality, and informality, directs students toward appropriate College resources and facilitates discussion to identify the best options to resolve problems. If a student believes a published policy or procedure has been violated or applied unfairly—or if informal means have not resolved a student’s dissatisfaction with a decision, policy, or circumstance—the student may file a formal written complaint. A link to the online written student complaint submission form can be found on the Report a Problem.
New College of Florida maintains a record of all submitted written student complaints to ensure they are addressed in a prompt, fair, and consistent manner. New College strives to respond to all written student complaints within 30 days and to resolve complaints within 90 days.
